ICSI: An approach towards Male Infertility Management
|
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection is an in vitro fertilization procedure in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. ICSI takes care of the infertility due to the male factors like Oligospermia ( loe sperm count), Asthenopermia ( low motility of sperms ), Teratozoospermia -Abnormal sperm structure and Azoospermia absence of sperm.
The latest technology available at our IVF Centre in India has a new highly advanced microscope machine that will allow infertility specialists to pick the best quality sperm while carrying out the specialised test-tube baby procedure of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).The sperms can be obtained by doing a testicular biopsy. The fertilisation occurs outside the woman's body. The baby/embryo is created outside the body of the mother and then placed inside the mothers womb. Intra-Cytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI) helps magnify the image of the sperm 7,200 times, thereby allowing doctors to pick the best looking healthier sperms. The machine is an advanced version of the earlier technique of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI),having the magnification capacity of 16 times higher than ICSI.
This revolutionary technique has given fresh hope to many men who suffer from obstructive azoospermia, conditions like congenital absence of Vas, testicular dysfunction, Testicular atropy, sertolicell only syndrom, maturation arrest. |

IUI - Intra Uterine Insemination
Intrauterine insemination - In (IUI) warmed prepared sperm is introduced into the woman's uterus (womb) at around the time of ovulation, with the aim of getting the sperm nearer to the egg. The procedure is often combined with fertility medicines. IUI helps couples where the man has a low sperm count or poor motility (the ability of the sperm to move), as long as there are sufficient levels of healthy, motile sperm to make the treatment worthwhile. If not, IVF or ICSI will be more suitable. Different clinics use different criteria to decide whether the quality of sperm is sufficient for IUI.
Because sperm is placed directly inside the woman, IUI can also help couples who are unable to have intercourse because of disability, injury, or difficulties such as premature ejaculation. It is also recommended for women with mild endometriosis, and is often used as the first line of assisted conception treatment for couples with "unexplained infertility". Women without a male partner may also want to have IUI, as using sperm donated through a clinic has a number of advantages over self-insemination at home.
